LIL JON, FAKE EURO ACCENTS & A SOUNDTRACK TO YOUR INSTA PROFILE: NOW TRENDING
YOUR WEEKLY ROUNDUP - 23/8
The weirder the better - while we didn’t quite get anything as earth-shattering as adding the word ‘demure’ to our vocabulary this week, we’re seeing a good range of niche trends that are making their way through to brand content. These niche trends are the perfect opportunity to test creative new ways of content to see what sticks.
TRENDS YOU SHOULD BE ACROSS
LOVINGLY UNHINGED SECRETS
WTP INSIGHT: We all know TikTok is the place for unhinged behaviour and justifying your less-than-perfect behaviour. This trend is essentially TikTok in a nutshell - a mix of a cutesy background, upbeat music, with something you would only tell your bestie when you’re 6 margaritas deep. That’s why it’s so great.
This is the perfect opportunity to show up not as a brand but to appear as a person or generic creator to bait your audience and gain new followers.
For brands this could look like:
Telling us the time you ordered 1000 units of the wrong product
A spicy take on the industry
A personal secret to come from the TOV of the ‘intern’ who let loose on the TikTok
THE FAKE EURO ACCENT
WTP INSIGHT: These 2 creators popped up our feed a week ago and there’s something about this horrific accent that unlocks some sort of deep euro memory, or perhaps its just entertaining to watch someone butcher the english language so beautifully that it scratches an itch in our brains that we can’t look away. We thought we were the only ones to have seen this, that was until The Teletubbies TikTok account used one of their sounds and now we know this is the start of something.
This is similar to a creator we know and love across TikTok and IG Brian Jordan Alvarez who also creates similar content.
How can brands apply this? Use this for office content, to introduce your team in a chaotic way, you can lipsync to the sound to show work besties or for a unique approach to showing off a product.
DUBAI HOUSEWIFE [PARODY]
WTP INSIGHT: Once again, our obsession with ‘tradwife’ and ‘stay at home wives’ is yet to subside, because there’s something so intriguing and unattainable about watching a housewife in Dubai’s husband fork out a casual $2m in a day. It feels so out-of-touch in a way that we just want to be a part of it.
How can brands apply this? There’s so much opportunity here to create parody content, using the sound or showing off basic products or recreating a ‘day in the life as a millionaire’s wife’ showing a very average day in the office to show your brand as relatable, even getting your social media manager to show off their day in a similar style.
POP CULTURE MOMENTS THAT CAUGHT OUR ATTENTION
LIL JON AT DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL CONVENTION
Firstly, imagine if this happened in Australia. Secondly, this was maybe the greatest pop culture moment of the year. “Turn down for what” blasting at the Democratic National Convention
SABRINA CARPENTER ALBUM LAUNCH
Sabrina Carpenter aka the artist holding down TikToks trending audios has released a new album - brace yourself for a Taste of Sabrina Carpenter across your FYP for weeks and weeks and weeks to come. (Prepare your fashion content accordingly)
CHRISTINA AGUILERA’S FACE
Yes, her face. The current discourse around how INCREDIBLY (SPOOKY) Christina Aguilera looks for checks notes for 43 is floating around, either way, she looks unbelievable.
WHAT’S NEW ON SOCIAL
ADD MUSIC TO YOUR INSTA PROFLE
This is groundbreaking. Instagram has announced a new feature allowing you to add a soundtrack to your profile. Millennials are losing their mind over this feature from 2005 MySpace of having music on your IG profile. Now you can really set the mood as you stalk your own profile. Perfect for brands and creators to jump on - I say the more niche, the better.
THE PARALYMPICS ARE ON TIKTOK
From now until the Closing Ceremony on September 8, TikTok will be releasing exclusive content through TikTok LIVE, including only-on-TikTok viewpoints of the opening and closing ceremonies, tours of event venues, interviews with Paralympians, friends and family. Great for making Olympic content especially with 2032 Brisbane Olympics on Australia’s mind.
